Earn your Ceramics/Pottery badge! Scouts will learn how to work with clay, including skills and information required for earning a merit badge.
Open to Scouts of all ages.
Minimum 5 students per workshop, 16 max.
Cost per student per day: $15.00
Workshops last 90 minutes, and include using the pottery wheels. Covering all techniques to earn a merit badge takes 2 workshops- one to create the clay pieces, and a second to decorate and glaze them. At least one week is needed between workshops to dry and fire the pots to prepare them for glazing. If you only want to do one workshop, the pieces can be fired with a glaze, or left unglazed so they can be painted at home. Siblings and parents are welcome to join in, at the same cost.
Workshop Topics
o Making a pot on the wheel
o How clay bodies are made/processed
o Glaze formulation
o Kilns and firing
o Second day workshops include all of the above, plus making a hand-built pot and painting the pots made on the wheel on the first day.
